Objective
Capture the cards from the table to make scopas.
Variant played: Forty Italian cards · capture by sum
- Players
- 2 to 4
- Duration
- 15–30 min
- Deck
- 40 Italian cards
Capture an equal card
Play a card whose value matches a card on the table, then choose this capture. Suits do not have to match.
Capture a sum
A card can capture a group whose sum equals its value. With a 7, you can capture a 3 and a 4. Jack is 8, Knight 9, King 10.
Play without capturing
If no capture is available, the played card stays on the table. In this example, a 5 does not capture the 2 and 7.
Make a scopa
Capturing all cards still on the table gives a scopa, except on the last capture of the deal. Example: your 7 takes the only cards, 3 and 4.
the settebello and the denari
The 7 of coins is the settebello. End-of-deal scoring also awards the majority of cards, coins, and primiera, in addition to scopas.
Receive the next three cards
When all hands are empty and the stock still has cards, three new cards are dealt to each player. The cards already on the table stay in place.
